History Students Uncover Medieval Artifacts on Campus
A routine construction project turned into an archaeological discovery when history students identified medieval artifacts buried beneath the campus grounds.
What began as a routine landscaping project near the Old Quad has turned into a significant archaeological find. History department students, working alongside professional archaeologists, have uncovered pottery, coins, and tools dating back to the 13th century.
The artifacts suggest the campus site was once home to a small medieval settlement. The university has paused construction to allow for a thorough excavation.
"This is a once-in-a-generation discovery," said the lead archaeologist. "These items tell us a great deal about daily life in this region 800 years ago."
